It sank off the coast off Vietnam in 1969 while involved in Operation Sea Spirit. The ship was in collision with HMAS Melbourne which cut the Evans in two, sending the entire front section of the Evans to the bottom of the South China Sea. 74 crew members died that night, yet their name has been excused from the Vietnam memorial war.
